Ancrum village has a friendly pub, The Cross Keys, serving good beer and food and an well stocked village shop with post office, both an easy stroll from the cottage. Locally there is excellent fishing, golfing and walking, the beaches and castles of Northumberland are within easy driving distance and Edinburgh is within one hour's drive to the north and Hadrian's Wall to the south. Location: The pretty market town of Jedburgh is dominated by the ruins of the magnificent Augustinian Abbey. Visitor attractions include Mary Queen of Scots House and the Jedburgh Jail & Dungeons. There are numerous cafes, pubs and restaurants to sample. The Borders is made for cycling. Quiet country lanes and open countryside between the Border towns and villages. The mountain bike center at Glentress is 40 minutes drive from Ancrum. Golf So many courses and so little time from the championship course at The Roxburghe, the challenge of the scenic local courses at Minto and Jedburgh to the links courses of the Lothian and Northumberland coasts. Fishing The Tweed and its tributaries are the life blood of the Borders defining the countryside, villages, towns and the people. The river stretches over 97 miles and there are many opportunities to fish the Tweed, it doesn’t have to be expensive. Our properties at Ancrum and Kelso are well located to fish both the Tweed and Teviot. There are many other rivers and stillwaters to tempt you and sea angling on the Lothian and Northumberland coast.
