An hour’s drive south of Christchurch, along the Inland Scenic Route 72, is Stronechrubie. This fully licensed Restaurant and Chalet complex has the tranquillity and splendour of Rural New Zealand as it's neighbour. At the foot of Mt Somers, Stronechrubie is home base for enjoying the majesty, the excitement or the calm of Canterbury's High Country. Very close to Mt Hutt ski field, Lake and River fishing, hot air ballooning, Mt Somers Walkway (in the top 10 of New Zealand's)
Location 8 Hoods Road, Mt Somers, Mount Somers The station was named by George McRae after his home village in Scotland by the same name. The village has disappeared as well but the old name Stronechrubie is still to be found on maps just north of Ullapool.
