Riverhead Guest House is situated on the upper end of the Hokianga Harbour at Horeke overlooking the head of the tidal harbour and the mouth of the Waihou River. It is a fine old kauri colonial style house, which was built in 1871 and extended and modernised in 1912. It remained unchanged from that time until the early 1980's when it was bought, resited and restored by the Holdaway family who resided in it for approximately 20 years
